This is a game changer in terms of health. Earth shattering IMHO.
After recently have read David Brownstein's book about iodine, I am compelled to briefly mention it, since it is a major discovery to me in terms of supplements, right there on top, along with magnesium.
When pondering upon the myriad of health benefits of iodine, it is difficult not to wonder why we know so little of it, and get far too less of it (since the RDI is 100 lower than real therapeutic dosing, when benefits can start take effect) because it is just freakishly cheap and simple and hence, hard to leverage from by greedy Big Farma.
The advantages include:
1. Balancing hormones, metabolism and thyroid. there are myths about screwing up your thyroid - not entirely true (if at all) but looks like that due to the possible jump in serum TSH (gauging up NIS).
Iodine Helps Your Brain Stay Sharp - I suspect this is thanks to the profound thyroid hormone effect on the brain.
It balances the different estrogens in both men and women.
3. Iodine Protects the Body From Toxins - AND it drives detoxification of halogens like bromine and fluorine, which are very toxic, even more so when you are iodine-deficient which will exacerbate toxicity too, a slippery slope to hell.
4. Iodine is anti-biotic and antiseptic - before there were other things, there was iodine, it it worked marvelously. Then came Big Farma and their trickery, and iodine was forgotten (and villainized).
5. Iodine Is a Powerful Antioxidant. And Oxidant. It helps to balance oxidation.
6. Iodine Ensures Reproductive Health, thanks to it's effect on estrogens and other hormones in every cell in the body but especially on glandular tissues (glands in the body, thyroid, breasts etc, are major accumulators of iodine).
7. Iodine detoxifies halogens and heavy metals. Lots of toxic halogens come from our environment, as well as goitrogenic foods and over-farmed soils with heavy metals, such as aluminum and quicksilver
8. Cancer Prevention - cancerous lesions occur due to many exacerbated effects of toxicity and deficiency, which leads to cysts.
Dr. David Brownstein, and his mentor, Dr. Guy Abraham have been working with iodine and related issues for the last years and have debunked many of the myths about iodine.
Personally, I'd take it as a remedy and prevention of:
- cysts in the breasts (women), or prostate (men) issues, and especially at the face of cancerous lesions (look for a knowledgeable doctor, a 24-hour urine test can confirm deficiency).
- Halogen toxicity (bromine, fluorine chlorate), and this includes the majority of people
- Thyroid issues, or signs of low level hypothyroidism.
Remember that toxicity issues are much more prevalent with iodine deficiency.
We immediately purchased some iodine/iodide solution (5% Lugol's solution)and started supplementing.
Do your own research, use at your own risk and/or benefit. Your doctor is unlikely to help you.
